8 Signs You Are a Highly Sensitive Person
And how to respect your needs as an HSP.
A highly sensitive person (HSP) is an individual with increased or deeper central nervous system sensitivity to physical, emotional, and social stimuli. Most research sources suggest that HSPs could be about 15–20% of the population.
I am an HSP myself; however, through the years, I have perceived some of my traits as an HSP as weaknesses. As I have been learning more about myself, I have learned to not only love and accept myself for who I am but also respect my needs and be proud of my uniqueness.
I combined in this article the knowledge I wish I had years ago — about the characteristics, attitudes, dispositions, and habits of HSPs that I found in other reputable sources about HSP and my own experience as an HSP.
One of the biggest challenges HSPs face is respecting their own uniqueness and their needs accordingly. Therefore, becoming aware of their dispositions is a step towards understanding that the way they are is ok. They don’t need to try changing them or feel like there’s something inherently wrong with them.
Self-acceptance, self-love, and self-care are crucial for everyone, but especially HSPs; it is something to pay attention to as they are more at risk of neglecting that.
